Do you love to shop? Many people do, and for most, it is simply an enjoyable hobby. However, for some the enjoyment goes beyond fun and into the realm of obsession. This is when you know you have a shopping addiction, although the signs can be hard to spot at first. This article will let you know exactly what to look for, not only in yourself, but also in others.

A shopping addict is also called a shopaholic, a play on words with alcoholic, which tends to make this sound like a frivolous thing. After all, how bad can it be to buy stuff? However, this is actually a very serious problem for thousands of people worldwide, but especially in consumer-driven countries. For these shopaholics, their problem is no small matter and it can affect every aspect of their lives if allowed to continue.

The early signs of a shopping addiction are pretty subtle and there is a fine line between a person who likes to shop and a person who shops obsessively. The majority of shopaholics are women, although a few men are also afflicted with this problem.

A shopping addiction begins with compulsive buying of things that aren’t necessary to the buyer, such as buying ice cream on sale, even though you already have two gallons in the freezer. The shopaholic is able to justify these purchases fairly easily (“we eat a lot of ice cream, this is more cost effective”) and doesn’t really bother to hide them in the early stages. Although spending more money than needed, the shopper feels in control still.

As the shopping problem expands, the buyer begins to feel guilty for spending the money and will start to hide things that they buy. For example, a woman might buy a scarf at a very expensive boutique and hide it in her closet, never wearing it since it reminds her of how much money she threw away on it. This is usually where the major problems start with shopping.

The causes of shopaholism is not evident, but some women shop when they feel depressed or stressed out. As time goes on, the addiction itself causes stress as credit card bills are run up and bank accounts empty. If there is a partner in a relationship, things can get ugly as they fight about the money. It is a real vicious cycle, with money causing stress so the shopaholic buys more, thus causing more money problems!

Eventually, a shopping problem can lead to more severe problems, including extreme debt or bankruptcy, shoplifting and stealing money from friends and family, and even credit card fraud when all of the regular cards have been rejected. At this point, the shopping problem has taken over the life of the addict and it is very difficult to stop or think of anything except buying.

Shopping can become a serious problem if allowed. Although not the ideal method of coping with stress, it rapidly becomes the comfort action of an addicted person. Once it has passed a certain point, intervention will be necessary.

Search engines' main purpose are to index and rank scores of millions of internet web pages, videos, podcasts, rss feeds and much more. When you type a word or a phrase the search engine scans its database where it has the stored pages indexed and it returns to the user a list containing the most relevant results for that search.

Search engines appearedin the early 90’s when Alan Emtage, a student at the McGill University in Montreal created the first search engine like tool called Archie. Archie's purpose was to index FTP servers. T he files on these servers were available for anyone, but one couldn’t use them unless knowing the address of the server. Archie looked through this database and gathered lists of files for each server. It was used by people to match phrases and characters in order to take them to the server address the file they were looking for was on.

Archie is now an old method, but its creation was the first step in the search engine rally that is going on now. As the public grew more and more aware of the existence of the internet, the need for a search tool became visible.

So, first there were some software robots, using the concept of spidering to index the web, following links from one site to the other and saving the text from all visited websites in a database.

Between 1994 and 1995 three important search engines appeared: Lycos, WebCrawler and AltaVista. At about the same time Yahoo! appeared but Yahoo! is not a search engine. Yes, it has a search engine function, but yahoo is firstly a director or data and articles, providing different services as email and hosting. Recently yahoo has signed contracts with other search engines as Google for both of them to provide more search results.

Today search engines are in a continuous competition. There are thousands of search engines, but just a few big ones. This small group of top search engines is responsible for more than 90% of online searches.

But the question arises: if search engines are free and they cam be used by everyone what keeps them financially alive? The answer to the question is very simple: advertising and traffic. The more visits they have, the bigger the traffic then the more money they can make providing promotion space.

Search engines are competing to develop the best formulas and algorithms to evaluate the web pages accordingly to the keywords provided.
If someone is looking for a top position in search engines, then he has to be sure that his site is projected in such a way that search engines would find it easily, being relevant for the keywords and phrases the owner wants it to be found by.

wonderful writing style is no longer enough to get
attention. You need to be able to market your blog
effectively.

Too many bloggers spend all of their time writing posts
and almost no time marketing their project. To be
certain, updating as often as you can is a great way to
keep your blog high on blogrolls and high in blog
search engines like technorati, and once your readers
know that you update frequently they will return to your
site on a regular basis. However, it does not matter how
often you update if nobody is reading your page, so dont
skimp on the time that you spend drawing visitors to
your site. To make your dreams of blogging for profit a
reality, try decreasing your number of posts and using
some of that time to draw new visitors by setting up
link exchanges with other bloggers, making contacts in
the blog community, and following other established
modes of winning traffic.

Of course, even if you are a marketing genius or have a
really great idea for a blog, success is not going to
happen overnight. Building the kind of readership that
blogging for profit requires takes time, and in all
likelihood it will be at least several months before you
are able to turn much of a profit. Try to stay committed
to your blogging project during this initial rough period.
To stay motivated, set goals for how often you will
update and how many readers you want to attract, and
then reward yourself for sticking with your plan.
